Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park is situated along the Zambezi River near Livingstone and is an excellent addition to a visit to Victoria Falls. The park takes its name from the local name for Victoria Falls, Mosi-oa-Tunya, meaning “The Smoke That Thunders.”
Although smaller than many of Zambia’s other national parks, Mosi-oa-Tunya offers visitors an enjoyable and easily accessible wildlife experience. The park is home to a variety of animals including giraffe, zebra, buffalo, wildebeest, impala, warthog and numerous smaller species. It is particularly well known for its white rhinos, which can be seen on guided rhino walks accompanied by experienced guides.
The Zambezi River and surrounding woodland also attract a wonderful variety of birdlife, making the park appealing to birdwatchers and nature lovers. With its combination of wildlife, river scenery and close proximity to Victoria Falls, Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park is a great way to experience another side of Livingstone and can easily be combined with a tour of the Falls, a Zambezi sunset cruise or other activities in the area.
