What was once Lake Makgadikgadi is now a massive salt pan. The largest of the pans is called Sowa Pan, Ntwetwe Pan and Nxai Pan.
On a clear day you can see the curvature of the earth, the flickering of the salt reflecting off the harsh sunlight.
During the rainy season, this dry salt pan turns into a muddy marsh, the sticky mud sticks your wheels of the car, making it impassable during these months.
